Chief Nursing Officer duties and responsibilities

As a leader, Chief Nursing Officer have many responsibilities. In addition to managing nurses, this role consists of administrative work that helps keep the organization running smoothly. On a daily basis, a Chief Nursing Officer’s duties may include:

  • Creating and implementing care standards and policies
  • Maintaining the organization’s accreditation
  • Recruiting, training and supervising staff (including nurses)
  • Balancing budgets for multiple departments
  • Facilitating opportunities for continued staff education
  • Monitoring the staff-to-patient ratio
  • Sourcing new technologies that lead to better patient care and greater efficiency
  • Collaborating with providers, administrators and other department leaders
Compensation:  $20,000 annually
